Isabella Basson 
Isabella Basson, born in 2005 in Pretoria, showed a stubborn determination from the age of 3 when she insisted on playing tennis despite her parents’ initial reservations about her age. Starting competitive tournaments at 7, she quickly gained recognition as a promising talent. Bella excelled in various extracurriculars during her youth, including athletics, softball, modelling and acrobatics, but her passion for tennis prevailed. She has achieved significant success, ranking in the top 5 for girls under 18 in South Africa last year and representing her country in internationally as part of the SA schools team.
In her junior career, she reached a career high ITF ranking of 712 and secured an ITF junior singles title, along with reaching finals and semifinals in numerous other international events in both singles and doubles. Bella had the privilege of training at the Rafael Nadal Academy and afterwards competed in clay tournaments in Spain where she proudly made semifinals. Notably, she finished 3rd in the girls’ under 18 category at the South African Junior Masters, defeating the 2nd seed twice.
Her competitive drive extends beyond the court into academics, consistently ranking in the top 10 of her class throughout her school years. Bella’s dedication led her to transfer to online schooling for her final two years of high school, culminating in being named the top matric student of 2023 at Hatfield Online Christian School with a remarkable 90% average and 7 distinctions. Recently, she started modelling for Jenna Clifford Silver Lakes Studio.
Recognizing her talent and achievements, Bella earned a scholarship at Tulsa University in the United States, where she will commence her studies in August 2024. Auret Jansen from JL’s Tennis Academy has skilfully coached her for over a decade. Bella is dedicated to God and very grateful for all the wonderful opportunities that He has blessed her with in her life. Her infectious joy and passion for the game have earned her praise, and she is poised for a bright future in tennis.
